Dad’s Joke About Dog Siblings Getting Jealous of Each Other Is So On-Point

If you have more than one dog, chances are that you already know that they can get jealous of each other just like human siblings do. Ellie and Emma are Golden Retriever TikTok stars who love making videos with their dad, Kevin. They shared a video at the beginning of March of what happens when dad pays too much attention to one of them.

Sibling rivalry is real, and so when dad's paying a little too much attention to Emma, Ellie decides to get revenge by tricking her and locking her in the bathroom. But watch what happens at the end when Emma gets her revenge!

This is so relatable as a parent and as a dog parent! It's always tit for tat with kids, and it looks like it might be the same way for dogs! Ellie and Emma's fans had a lot to say about the video. @Kelly said, "Genius plan!" @Amanda Sue added, "Sir, if you don’t clone yourself right now so you can cuddle them both…LOL!" @Apolonia Schultz swooned, "I just noticed her teeth!!!! So cute!!!" and Kevin replied, "The cutest lil' front teefs!"

What to Do About a Jealous Pup

Does your pup get jealous? If so, you know how frustrating the situation can be. According to PetMD, "According to experts, jealous-like behaviors in pets typically suggest boredom or a ploy for attention from their owners. Sometimes, our pets just want us, and they don’t want to share us with another pet or person.” That's understandable, especially since each one of us knows the feeling and knows that it doesn't feel good.

How do you prevent the jealousy from happening? A veterinarian here on PetHelpful.com shared this tip, and I thought it was a good piece of advice if you are introducing your dog to a new dog: Get them good and tired before the meeting by taking a long walk or doing some extensive exercise. Basically, if your dog tired, chances are it won't have the energy to get jealous...or at least not aggressively jealous.

But if you are like Kevin and have two or more pets at home, that's a little different. Make sure you're not paying more attention to or favoring one pet over the others. An example would be when you come home, and your pets greet you at the door.

Of course you want to spend time with each of them separately, but it shouldn't be obvious that you prefer a certain pet. Also, if you have two dogs, you should have two dog beds, enough toys for two, and different feeding areas for each of them.

Just like with kids, it's important to be fair and equal. Sometimes you might not even realize you're favoring one over the other, so pay attention!
