A child who escaped a house explosion and fire in New Hampshire that killed her grandmother is on the road to recovery — just as the grandmother would want.

Laura Percival, 76, died on Thursday, April 4 after an explosion and fire occurred at her home in Derry during a snowstorm, according to the New Hampshire State Fire Marshal’s Office.

Authorities believe a tree fell and “struck two propane tanks on the backside of the house, causing a propane leak and subsequent explosion” as a result of the nor’easter.

A child who was also inside the home was hospitalized after the incident, the fire marshal’s office said.

That child, an 11-year-old girl named Violet, “managed to escape through a hole in the foundation,” according to a GoFundMe campaign started by a family member, Amy Lynn LaPointe.

John Giso, Violet’s father, said his daughter sustained serious burns to her face, chest, hands and feet, according to FOX affiliate WFXT. When he tried to tell her that she was a "hero" for escaping, he said that his daughter said she didn't feel that way, as a hero "would’ve been able to save grandma."

"I said, ‘No, you’re a hero. Grandma would’ve wanted you to get out,' ” he added.
