Earlier this year, Dabo Swinney and the Clemson Tigers dismissed defensive back Derion Kendrick. Kendrick then went and took his talents to Athens to join the Georgia Bulldogs.

The two-time All-ACC defensive player is expected to be an instant-impact player for Kirby Smart and his defense. Even better for Kendrick, he’ll get a chance at revenge against Clemson when the Bulldogs play the Tigers in Week 1 of the college football season.

Swinney doesn’t have any hard feelings for Kendrick, despite how things transpired. In fact, he voiced his support for the now Georgia cornerback during Tigers’ media day on Tuesday.

“No,” Swinney said when asked if he was surprised that Kendrick joined Georgia, via 247Sports. “They’re a great program and do a great job defensively. It’s a good opportunity for him. I’m just happy that he’s at a good place and has an opportunity to finish up hopefully strong. Love DK, wish him all the best in every game but the first one. I’ll be pulling for him. Really want to see him do well, and hopefully he’ll be able to achieve all the dreams the way he wants to.”

Derion Kendrick was recruited to play wide receiver, but made a position change while at Clemson. The gamble paid off.

In two seasons at cornerback with the Tigers, Kendrick had 63 total tackles and three interceptions. He now heads to a Georgia team with an even better defense, on paper at least.

Georgia will pay a visit to Clemson on Sept. 4 at 7:30 p.m. ET in Week 1 of the upcoming college football season.
