Dabo Swinney Gives Honest Answer On College Football Playoff Expansion
The College Football Playoff will be expanding at some point, and when it does, it looks like 12 teams will be chosen for the field every year.
Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney doesn’t seem too happy about the change. The two-time national champion, who has led the Tigers to the last six playoffs, has been consistent in his dislike for expansion.
He repeated his arguments against it in a media appearance on Tuesday.
“Our team isn’t for it. They don’t want to play more games,” Swinney told reporters, via 247Sports’ Anna Hickey. “The more you expand it, the less important the season becomes and the more you become the NFL. I think the bigger question is where is college football going from a structural standpoint.”

Swinney also added that he doesn’t think there are 12 teams worthy enough every year for playoff selection.
He’s probably correct about this, but the 12-team model can potentially solve some of the CFP selection issues and will result in more games and more revenue.

Dabo can–and likely will–continue to voice his disapproval of altering the College Football Playoff structure.
At the end of the day though, it’s going to happen, whether he likes it or not.
