DA: Driver in 2022 fatal wreck in Upton brought back to United States; due in court Monday

A driver who fled the country after a fatal crash in Upton two years ago will be arraigned in Milford District Court Monday, according to authorities.

Dias De Holanda was at the wheel of a car that overturned on Glenview Way Aug. 6, 2022. A passenger in the vehicle, Jacob O. Osanya, died in the wreck, according to the Worcester District Attorney''s Office.

De Holanda and three others in the car were treated for injuries at UMass Memorial Medical Center.

Two days later, after an investigation by Upton and state police, authorities sought to locate De Holanda, who was living with his family in Bellingham at the time. Investigators learned he had left the country.

In a news release, the district attorney's office explained: "It was later learned that Dias De Holanda, a Brazilian national, traveled to Brazil, a country which does not extradite its own nationals, shortly after the crash."

Authorities later learned De Holanda was on the move again. He was tracked to London, and Dec. 22, 2023, he was apprehended by authorities there.

He is due to be arraigned Monday in Milford District Court. He faces manslaughter, among other charges.
