Cyclist injured after being struck by vehicle on U.S. 31 on Friday

PETOSKEY — A 72-year-old cyclist was injured on Friday morning while riding in Bear Creek Township after being struck by a vehicle.

According to Emmet County Sheriff Pete Wallin, the accident occurred around 9:20 a.m. on U.S. 31 near Shaw Road when Catheryn Bryant, 44, was driving northbound on U.S. 31 and became distracted. She drove onto the shoulder of the road and struck Steve Redder, 72, who was on his a bicycle.

Redder was transported to McLaren Northern Michigan hospital in Petoskey with injuries. Wallin said he does not believe the injuries are life threatening.
