Culver’s is expanding its footprint in South Florida. The fast-food chain specializing in burgers, chicken, fish, fried cheese curds and frozen custard has plans to open this year in Southwest Broward, on University Drive in Cooper City.

What is Culver’s?

History: Culver’s is a Wisconsin-based fast-food chain founded by the Culver family. It specializes in burgers, fried chicken and fish, frozen custard, and sides including fried cheese curds. The first restaurant opened in Wisconsin in 1984.

Does Culver’s have other Florida locations?

Gulf Coast: You can find Culver’s mainly on Florida’s west coast, including Bradenton, Sarasota, Naples and Tampa.

South Florida: Culver’s has a restaurant in Margate in northern Broward County. There’s also a Culver’s in Jupiter, in northern Palm Beach County.

Where is Culver’s expanding in Florida?

South Florida: A Culver’s will open this year in Cooper City in Southwest Broward. Another location is planned for Tamarac in Northwest Broward.

Elsewhere in Florida: Other Florida locations will open soon in Lakeland, Lutz and Brooksville.

What’s on the menu at Culver’s?

Burgers: Culver’s is best known for its so-called ButterBurger. The chain says the burger itself isn’t cooked with butter, but the name comes from the buttered bun.

Chicken and fish: Chicken sandwiches come grilled, fried or spicy. Tenders come regular or buffalo-style. Fried cod is sold in sandwiches and platters.

Sides: Crinkle-cut fries, onion rings, pretzel bites with cheddar cheese sauce, mashed potatoes and gravy, steamed broccoli, onion rings, soup, cheese curds, chili.
