It's crunch time! Breaking down the races in Corpus Christi high school baseball, softball

Let’s not dawdle and dig right into what the playoff races look like in high school baseball and softball across Corpus Christi and the Coastal Bend.

Baseball

29-5A North Zone: Ray has won it and awaits its district championship series opponent. Victoria West, Victoria East and Gregory-Portland are still involved for the final two spots and likely will need extra games.

29-5A South Zone: Come back to caller.com on Friday night we’ll know more then. Not enough characters to describe that mess. Here’s a look at the standings.

30-4A: Sinton has clinched a share of the district title with Rockport-Fulton and Beeville. Port Lavaca Calhoun and Orange Grove are vying for the final playoff spot.

31-4A: This could be an interesting week in this district. Tuloso-Midway and Calallen are in, but the district title is still in play for the Wildcats. Bishop, Alice and Robstown are all fighting for the final spot. Stay tuned.

29-3A: Goliad and Mathis are in, as Odem’s win against George West on Tuesday muddles this district a little bit. The Owls, Longhorns and Taft are all vying for the final two spots.

30-3A: London needs a win to take the district title and Falfurrias and Santa Gertrudis Academy are in. Banquete needs a win to clinch the final playoff spot.

Softball

29-5A North Zone: Gregory-Portland and Victoria East face off on Tuesday and the winner will be the top seed. The loser faces Victoria West to determine the other two seeds.

29-5A South Zone: Veterans Memorial is the top seed, Carroll is second and Flour Bluff third. They are waiting for their crossover opponent.

30-4A: Ingleside, Sinton and Rockport-Fulton are all tied for first at 9-2 in the playoffs, and Port Lavaca Calhoun has secured the final spot.

31-4A: Calallen has won the district title but behind them, it’s a logjam. Tuloso-Midway and Bishop are 5-4, and Alice and Robstown are 4-5, and none have clinched a playoff spot. More games, and maybe a coin, may be needed to sort this out.
