Matt Smith revealed an amusing exchange he once had with Prince Harry, sparked by the actor’s role on Netflix’s Royal Family drama series “The Crown.”

Smith, who portrayed Prince Philip on the first two seasons of “The Crown,” told some of the details of his interaction with Harry when he appeared on “Today” on Thursday, Sept. 15.

“I met Harry once, at polo, which sounds a bit grand, but it wasn’t that grand. And he walked up to me and went, ‘Granddad,’” Smith said, a reference to Harry’s relationship to the character Smith played on the series.

“He watched the show!” Smith added. “Well, I can’t claim to know if he watches it currently, but he watched a bit of it then.”

Smith, who currently stars on the HBO series “House of the Dragon,” also said Queen Elizabeth II used to watch the series. “The Crown” is based on historical events of her reign.

Philip “definitely didn’t” watch the series, Smith said, sharing a story of one of his friends who once interacted with the queen’s husband.

“The Crown” has received renewed interest since the queen’s death on Sept. 8.

“In the U.S., viewership of ‘The Crown’ more than quadrupled from Friday-Sunday compared with the previous week,” Variety reported.
