Craving something sweet? Try a new dessert shop in Macon, Warner Robins or Perry

Life just got a little sweeter with the opening of these new dessert shops in Macon, Warner Robins and Perry.

Hand-crafted cookies, freshly-baked cakes, creamy made-in-store ice cream and other frozen treats are among the goodies awaiting those who venture inside.

Here’s a look at each of these dessert shops that opened over the last couple of months:

Cold Stone Creamery

New to Macon, this brand is known for ice cream made fresh in the store and then mixed with goodies of choice on a frozen granite stone. The new shop at 150 Tom Hill Sr. Blvd., Suite 254, is the third Cold Stone Creamery, including a Warner Robins store, for franchisee DK Shukla.

Customers may choose from signature creations such as coffee lovers only or strawberry blonde or create their own from a variety of flavors and goodies. The shop also offers cakes, cupcakes and ice cream sandwiches. Hours are noon to 9 p.m. daily. The number is 478-812-8882.

Sweet Evelyn’s

Brought to you by Unadilla baker and cookie artist Cory Jones, customers can now find his cookies and other baked goodies at his downtown storefront at 910 Carroll St. in downtown Perry. Food Network fans may remember Jones from the 2022 Christmas Cookie Challenge. The shop is a rebrand of his Jones and Company home decor store following a remodel.

Baked at his commercial kitchen in Unadilla, his cookies, cupcakes and featured treats are offered on one side of the shop while his home decor, gifts, gourmet food and seasonal items are on the other side. Jones posts what cookies he’ll be featuring from week to week on Facebook. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. The number is 478-224-0559.

Jeremiah’s Italian Ice

Known for frozen and refreshing treats, this brand new to Middle Georgia now has two locations in Warner Robins, with another store opening soon in Perry and a fourth planned for Macon. Their signature treat called “the gelati” combines flavors of their two other treats, Italian ice and soft-serve ice cream.

With more than 40 Italian Ice flavors, 24 flavors are featured daily — including seven that rotate. Sisters Monica and Manali Patel, graduates of Houston County High School, purchased the franchise rights for Middle Georgia. Their newest store is at 2945 Watson Blvd and their first at 810 Ga. 96, Suite 2200, both in Warner Robins.

Their third store is expected to open soon at 1506 Sam Nunn Parkway in Perry. Hours are noon to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and noon to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Call 478-333-6969 to reach the Watson Blvd. store and 478-359-3094 to reach the Ga. 96 store.

Layers

Earlier this year, Steven and Reia Collins opened this bakery at 3001 Vineville Ave. in Macon. She does the baking and he does everything else, including deliveries.

She tries to keep four to five cakes on hand that she sells by the slice, including a 10-layer chocolate cake, a banana pudding cake, a red velvet cheesecake cake and a strawberry crunch cake as well as what she calls an “ooey gooey.” She also offers customized, special occasion cakes for weddings, birthdays and such. Layers is open from noon to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. The number is 478-391-4818.

On the downside, downtown Macon just lost a popular coffee and dessert shop. Decadent Dessert Bar at 530 Poplar St. suddenly closed.

“We have enjoyed serving the people of Macon and surrounding areas for the past five years,” a closure notice taped to store window reads. “We tried to find someone to carry this venture on moving forward but were unsuccessful by the end of our lease term. “Thank you for the memories and smiles.”
