Crash at Hampton tolls on I-95: Passenger seriously injured

HAMPTON — Two people were hurt, including serious injuries to the passenger, when a car struck a concrete barrier at the Hampton toll plaza on Thursday, according to New Hampshire State Police.

Police said a 78-year-old North Andover, Massachusetts, man was driving a 2013 Nissan Altima on Interstate 95 northbound lost control, hitting a barrier in front of the toll booth in the fourth lane of the plaza about 4:11 p.m. Troopers found a passenger who had serious injuries and was not alert and was transported to a local hospital.

The driver was taken by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment of minor injuries, police said.

Trooper Daniel Bourque had to break the rear passenger side window to get inside the vehicle and assess the passenger’s injuries, according to police, stating the doors were not functional. Emergency medical services personnel arrived soon after.

Four northbound travel lanes in the area of the plaza were closed for approximately two and a half hours during the investigation and clean-up of debris, police said.Multiple agencies assisted state police, including the Hampton Police Department, Hampton Fire/Rescue, North Hampton Fire & Rescue, the New Hampshire Department of Transportation, and Pat’s Towing.
