The Dallas Cowboys may be getting star quarterback Dak Prescott back as training camp opens, but they’re not exactly going in with a completely healthy roster.

On Thursday, ESPN Cowboys insider Todd Archer reported that six Cowboys players will start training camp on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list. The most notable players on that list are Pro Bowl wideout Amari Cooper and Pro Bowl pass rusher DeMarcus Lawrence.

Cooper is battling a lingering ankle injury while Lawrence is dealing with a back injury. Also making the PUP list are DT Trysten Hill, kicker Greg Zuerlein, rookie DE Chauncey Golston and offensive tackle Mitch Hyatt.

Archer seemed to indicate that the injuries to Cooper and Lawrence aren’t too severe. He said that Hill and Hyatt need more rehab than the other four.

Amari Cooper is a crucial piece of the Cowboys offense. He’s led the team in receiving yards in each of the last three seasons and is coming off a year with 92 receptions for 1,114 yards and five touchdowns.

DeMarcus Lawrence is equally invaluable to Dallas’ defense. He’s led the team in sacks in three of the last four seasons. In 2020, he had 6.5 sacks and four forced fumbles.

The 2021 season will be a vital one for the Cowboys as they try to avoid missing the playoffs for a third year in a row. To have a winning season, let alone make the playoffs, they’ll need all hands on deck – and healthy hands at that.

Which of these Cowboys injuries will impact the team the most heading into training camp?
