For the second year in a row, the biggest offseason story for the Dallas Cowboys is quarterback Dak Prescott’s contract negotiations.

Prescott is currently on the mend from the brutal season-ending leg injury he suffered in Week 5 back in October. Simultaneously, his representation has reportedly had conversations with the Cowboys’ brass about a long-term deal.

According to NFL Network’s Jane Slater, who has covered the Cowboys extensively, Dallas fans have reason to be encouraged.

Slater reported this afternoon that Prescott has been at the team facility “nearly everyday” rehabbing and that his agent has had “good talks” with Cowboys VP Stephen Jones.

The deadline for Dallas to place the franchise tag on Prescott for the second consecutive year is next Tuesday. The team would obviously like to have a contract worked out by then, but it might not be feasible.

Slater suggested today that a tag followed by a potential long-term contract later in the offseason is possible.

The smart money still says Prescott will be Dallas’ starter in 2021, and likely beyond that as well.
