Masking is once again recommended indoors in public spaces in Beaufort County, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The Covid-19 County Check tool indicated that Beaufort County’s transmission rate is high.

Transmission level data is calculated each Thursday. Over the previous week, Beaufort County recorded 205.08 cases per 100,000 population and 10 new Covid hospital admissions per 100,000 population.

Recommendations for individuals include:

  • Wear a well-fitting mask indoors in public, regardless of vaccination status.

  • Stay up to date with Covid-19 vaccines and boosters. Last month, the CDC approved vaccinations for those ages 6 months and up.

Those at high risk for severe illness should consider other precautions, the CDC recommends.

The omicron BA.5 subvariant, which is the dominant coronavirus variant in the United States, is proving to be more resistant to Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, according to a recent Columbia University study.

While more than 18,000 people in South Carolina have died from Covid since the start of the pandemic, no Covid-related deaths were recorded in the week prior to July 9, the most recent data available from the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control.

Jasper County was listed as having a medium transmission rate. Residents are encouraged to talk to their healthcare provider about whether they need to wear a mask or take other precautions.
