The nominees this week for Courier & Press Athlete of the Week from April 29-May 4:

Alessia Baumann, Mater Dei: The senior pitched a no-hitter with eight strikeouts in a 2-0 victory over 3A No. 11 Heritage Hills.

Kade Buecher, North Posey: The junior was 8 for 15 with five extra-base hits and 11 RBI in four victories for the Vikings.

Jaxon Henke, Central: The senior went 10 for 14 with three extra-base hits (one home run) and 10 RBI across four games including conference victory over Castle and Harrison.

Celeste Hodges, Castle: The freshman won the No. 1 singles championship at the Jasper Invitational with three victories in straight sets. Her week also includes wins against Memorial and Mater Dei.

Mia Kiegel, Heritage Hills: The junior hit two home runs with four RBI and pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings in relief for the win in at Daviess County, a top 15 team in Kentucky.

De’Janay Layne, North: The sophomore was a part of three victories at the SIAC championship for the Huskies including a pair of meet records in the 4x100 relay (48.27) and 200 (24.82).

Miley Sperling, Gibson Southern: The freshman hit a pair of home runs with seven RBI across four games plus struck out 11 with no earned runs allowed against Wood Memorial.

Sage Stout, Forest Park: The senior pitched a no-hitter against Hancock County and went 2 for 3 with two RBI against Heritage Hills as the No. 2 Rangers won three times.

Will Wallace, Jasper: The senior went 8 for 15 with a pair of home runs and pitched 3.2 scoreless innings for the Wildcats, who won four games including their Hall of Fame Invitational.

Sadie Winsett, Castle: The junior was 8 for 17 with five extra-base hits (two home runs) and 11 RBI and earned two wins in the circle as the Knights won five games.
