The average long-distance trip at Thanksgiving is 214 miles, according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, but there's a place much closer to home to enjoy the holiday.

Set aside the cranberry sauce for a day because this place is worth a holiday journey.

Country Living created a list of its 35 Best Thanksgiving Towns in America, and ranked No. 3 is Lambertville, New Jersey.

“Also known as 'The Antiques Capital of New Jersey,' this former factory town is now a flourishing country outpost for antiques and the arts — and a postcard-perfect home base for small-town hopping along the Delaware River. Catch an indie flick in an old supermarket at Acme Screening Room, or enjoy aperitifs while wandering Black Shed, a 28-acre destination garden center that is also home to a full bar and 100 free-range show chickens," according to Country Living.

Country Living says, "Towns with quieter streets, country pastures, waterside locales dotted with palm trees to postcard-perfect small towns with amazing leaf peeping, and someone else being the cook, these destinations make for the best Thanksgiving vacations."

Here are the top 5 on the list:

  • Charlottesville, Virginia

  • Hermann, Missouri

  • Lambertville, New Jersey

  • Lake Placid, New York

  • Portsmouth, New Hampshire
