Costco's Massive New Bakery Item Has Shoppers Running to Grab It

In my expert opinion, streusel is an incredibly underrated topping. Not only does the deliciously sweet dessert topper add textural depth to moist muffins and creamy yogurt, but you can also flavor the granola adjacent crumble in a multitude of ways.

You could go simple and add a little honey, but why not challenge the status quo and chart new territory with a savory parmesan and herb version? Sure, you could do without the crispy, crumbly finisher, but the holiday season dictates going just a bit over the top — and don’t we all deserve a little something extra during the holidays? Whatever your preference, sweet or savory, a sprinkle of the good stuff can take a decidedly average dish and make it exceptional.

Of course, when it comes to delivering more than average, no one does it quite like bulk grocer Costco. This holiday season, the warehouse-style retailer has supplied us with a blizzard of holiday-ready items, each more fantastic than the next. Its newest offering is a doily-wrapped marvel aptly named Buttermilk Cinnamon Streusel Cake, and the heavenly dessert combines all of the season’s delights into one behemoth of a sweet treat.

The sizable confection weighs in at a whopping 4-pounds and is the perfect addition to your already overflowing holiday dinner table. In terms of flavor, the dessert features notes of warm cinnamon and familiar holiday spices mixed with the slight tang of buttermilk for a mouth-watering bite you’ll keep returning back to. The delicate soft cake is juxtaposed by a crunchy streusel topping we could devour by the spoonful, and we imagine it would be even better warmed up a bit just to wake up all of the festive flavors.

Each cake is wrapped and adorned with a festive bow, making this an excellent gift for the sweet lover on your list, but it’s also completely understandable if you choose not to share. Aside from being a giant ode to holiday desserts, the large and in-charge offering is priced at $14.99, which is a steal considering a similar-sized cake can cost upwards of $30.

For all of our lofty dessert expectations and streusel-topped goodies, Costco has us covered this season. And if you’re not in the market for an enormous dessert, they’ve got plenty of incredible gifts, too.
