Coshocton County engineer's annual report reviews 2023 work and outlines plans for 2024

COSHOCTON − The Coshocton County Engineer's Office recently issued its annual report for 2023. It features a list of completed road and bridge projects and work pending for the current year along with other office notes.

Coshocton County Engineer Fred Wachtel said work last year was pretty standard, with road paving and bridge repairs being the bulk of projects. The same is expected for 2024. Wachtel has been county engineer for 31 years.

Road paving for last year was a bit more than $1 million with $243,460 coming from an Ohio Public Works Commission Grant and $764,675 from MVG funding. Three bridges were replaced at $750,807 with $78,752 from an OPWC grant and $672,055 from MVG funding. Repairs were also made to Bridge 3 on Tiverton Township Road 452 at a cost of $53,720 for abutment replacement.

Of 268 bridges in Coshocton County, 102 are considered in excellent condition and 139 in good condition, with only two in critical condition. Of 350 miles of road, 34 roads are considered in excellent condition and 238 in good condition with none in critical condition.

Road Work for 2023

● County Road 12 had three miles of asphalt laid from the intersection with Ohio 83 to Township Road 212 in Keene and Millcreek townships. This was done with the OPWC grant.

● County Road 402 was single sealed at 3.65 miles from Ohio 206 to Ohio 79 in Perry Township.

● County Road 79 was single sealed at .42 miles from County Road 3 to Ohio 79 in Bedford Township.

● County Road 92 was double sealed and had spot full-depth reclamation of 1.20 miles from County Road 367 to Ohio 206 in New Castle and Perry townships.

● County Road 410 was double sealed at 1.43 miles from Township Road 121 to where chip sealing was done in Oxford Township.

● County Road 436 was double sealed and had full-depth reclamation of 4.79 miles from Township Road 71 to County Road 3 in Pike and Washington Townships.

Bridge Construction for 2023

● Bridge 10 on County Road 6, a 49-foot pre-stress concrete box beam bridge.

● Bridge 5 on Adams Township Road 176, a 49-foot pre-stress concrete box beam bridge.

● Bridge 2 on Monroe Township Road 338, a four-sided concrete box bridge

Road Work Pending for 2024

● County Road 22 will be proved for 3.53 miles from Warsaw to Township Road 341 in Jefferson Township from a pending OPWC grant estimated at $626,624.

● County Road 3 will receive a full-depth replacement of 5.67 miles from County Road 383 to the county line in Pike Township.

● County Road 23 single seal of 3.34 miles from County Road 55 to County Road 17 in Jackson Township.

● County Road 75 double seal and spot full-depth replacement for 2.53 miles from County Road 294 to County Road 6 in Virginia Township.

● County Road 149 single seal of .543 miles from Ohio 93 to County Road 410 in Linton Township.

● County Road 294 single seal for .818 miles from the county line to County Road 75 in Virginia Township.

● County Road 298 double seal and full-depth replacement of .909 miles from County Road 6 to County Road 297 in Virginia Township.

● County Road 410 paving for 1.45 miles from County Road 149 to the end of the pavement in Linton Township

Bridge Construction Pending for 2024

● Bridge 1 on Township Road 173 in White Eyes Township, a box beam bridge.

● Bridge 4 on Township Road 28 in Bethlehem Township, a box beam bridge.

● Bridge 2 on County Road 106 in Linton Township, receiving major rehabilitation.

● Bridge 5 on County Road 189 in Millcreek Township, a box culvert bridge.
