Corpus Christi ISD seeks to fill vacancies before next school year

Corpus Christi ISD is hosting a job fair Saturday, April 27 at Carroll High School to hire teachers for next year.

The annual job fair is part of the district's efforts every year to fill vacancies before the next school year. The district is looking for teachers and coaches for all subject areas and all grade levels.

"We're still finalizing our total number of teacher vacancies that we'll be recruiting for and we're still finalizing projected student enrollment, which will directly impact campus staffing allocations," chief human resources officer Debbie Cruz said.

So far, the district has received about 100 retirements and resignations from current teachers.

"We anticipate filling those vacancies as well as additional vacancies," Cruz said.

The district typically goes into the summer with about 100 vacancies, filling many of those vacancies with long-term substitutes who will be hired as teachers once they complete their teacher certification requirements.

"We will start them out as long-term substitute teachers and work them through that process to ensure that they are able to meet those certification requirements and then we transition them into their full-time role at that point," Cruz said.

Prospective teachers, including those who are finishing their certifications or currently certified teachers are invited and should bring multiple copies of resumes. All CCISD campus administrators and athletic coordinators will be in attendance to conduct on-site interviews.

The event is scheduled for 9 a.m. to noon at Carroll High School.

Starting teacher pay in the district is $52,250.

"We have been blessed with great attendance from teacher candidates over the last few years and have really had really great turnout," Cruz said. "We're excited to meet our new candidates for the new year."
