Corpus Christi ISD holding pre-K registration event April 13

Corpus Christi ISD is holding a pre-K registration event Saturday, April 13.

Corpus Christi ISD offers pre-K programs for 3-year-olds and 4-year-olds at elementary schools across the district. Families can register for the upcoming school year. Additionally, the district continues to accept new students on a space-available basis this year.

Between 2013-14 and 2019-20, CCISD's pre-K headcount was over 1,000 students each year. After a drop in 2020-21 to 840 students, pre-K enrollments recovered, rising to 1,053 in 2021-22, 1,585 in 2022-23 and more than 2,000 in fall 2023.

Last year, the district revamped curriculum, focusing on experiential learning.

Pre-K is free for students who meet certain eligibility requirements, such as if they are economically disadvantaged, homeless or in foster care, if they don't speak English or if they are they child of an active member of the U.S. armed forces, someone eligible for the Star of Texas Award or someone injured or killed while serving in the U.S. armed forces.

Corpus Christi ISD employees are also offered a discounted tuition rate.

Families can register for a spot in a pre-K program next year at the registration event Saturday, April 13.

The event is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Corpus Christi ISD Instructional Resource Center at 4321 Prescott Street.

Families should bring hard copies of documents including a birth certificate, church baptismal or hospital record, the child's Social Security card, residence verification, which could be a utility bill or lease agreement, an immunization record, food stamp or TANF case number if applicable and proof of income.

For new students beginning school next fall, the district instructs families to visit a doctor or the Nueces County Health Department before August to ensure all immunizations are current.
