Coroner confirms Kiely Rodni’s body found in California reservoir

A California coroner has confirmed that missing teen Kiely Rodni’s body was found in a reservoir near Reno, Nev.

A private dive team located the 16-year-old’s body in Prosser Creek Reservoir on Sunday. Kiely’s family, along with local law enforcement, said on Monday that they were sure it was her. A county coroner confirmed her death on Tuesday.

Prosser Creek Reservoir lies about 10 miles north of Lake Tahoe in Nevada County, Calif. Authorities from across the region participated in the two-week search for Kiely, who was from the 17,000-person town of Truckee, Calif.

Police do not suspect foul play in her death.

“The Placer County Sheriff’s Office and the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office are in communication with Kiely’s family and offer our deepest condolences to them during this extremely difficult time,” the law enforcement agencies said Tuesday in Facebook posts.

Kiely was last seen alive in the early morning hours of Aug. 6 at a party on Prosser Family Campground that reportedly involved hundreds of teenagers. The campground is about 20 miles southwest of Reno, Nev.

After initially launching a massive search across the Reno-Tahoe region, authorities announced Aug. 16 that they were scaling back the operation.

A volunteer search and recovery team called Adventures with Purpose took up the hunt for Kiely and found her body in just two days of work. They used sonar to detect her car beneath the reservoir’s surface and sent a diver to confirm their suspicions.

The diver found a body inside a silver 2013 Honda CR-V, the exact car that cops said belonged to Kiely.

“Once we confirmed it was indeed Kiely’s vehicle, we immediately notified family, law enforcement, and dad and grandpa were on scene within minutes,” Adventures with Purpose leader Doug Bishop said.

“While we accept this sadness cast under death’s shadow, the rising sun shines light upon us, reminding us not to mourn our loss, but to celebrate Kiely’s spirit and the gift that we all received in knowing her,” her family wrote Monday in an Instagram post. “Kiely will surely remain with us even though we will not get her back.”

A full investigation remains ongoing, even though police don’t suspect foul play.
