Coronation Street's Glenda Shuttleworth risks Rovers plan with huge blunder

Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Glenda Shuttleworth has risked the sale of the Rovers with an unfortunate blunder in Coronation Street.

One couldn't blame Glenda for her reaction to some disturbing events in Monday's (August 7) episode, though she made a big mistake when trying to hide her true feelings from potential buyers, the Newtons.

Henry Newton and his father Phillip had been floated as possible angel investors in the pub when current owner Jenny Connor fell upon hard times.

In order to impress the Newtons, the Rovers team planned an impressive pub night where Glenda was due to sing for the possible buyers.

Unfortunately, Glenda lost her voice hours before the performance. While it looked like Jenny's bid to save the pub was ruined, Glenda announced she'd booked singer Glyn Young to replace her.

The Newtons seemed satisfied that Glenda had roped in a last-minute replacement, yet nobody was prepared for Glyn to be a pensioner with hearing aids.

With some trepidation, Glenda sent Glyn to kick off the performance and he proved to be an unexpected success with the pubgoers.

But trouble soon arose when Phillip inappropriately touched Glenda during the festivitvies, and while she managed to slip away, she couldn't help but share her disgust with Glyn backstage.

Unfortunately, Glenda had no idea her microphone was still live, so the entire pub heard her complaining about the potential buyer getting handsy with her.

All hell started to break loose as Phillip grew angry about the accusation. At the same time, an ambulance had to be called to the pub when Glyn suddenly had a health emergency.

Amid the chaos, Henry tried to be kind as he explained to Jenny that his family wouldn't be able to buy the pub because the numbers just don't make sense.

Henry assured Jenny that Glenda's comments had no impact on the family's decision and passed along the contact details for a developer who may be interested in the property, suggesting that the pub may be more valuable as flats.

Will Jenny be able to save the pub?

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
