Coronation Street star reveals Glenda is "very hurt" in new plot

Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street star Jodie Prenger has teased a different side to her character Glenda Shuttleworth amidst the family feud with her brother George.

George recently discovered a lost version of his late father Archie's will at the funeral parlour, which stated that his sister should have received 50% of the business six years ago. When Glenda accidentally found out about the lost will from Todd Grimshaw, she ended up feeling profoundly betrayed.

"She's so hurt. Because why would a beloved brother betray her in this way?" Prenger said in a chat with Inside Soap.

"Then as it plays out there's misunderstanding, there's arguments, and there's this kind of family feud," she continued. "But I think initially she's very hurt and very confused."

Prenger suggested viewers may soon be treated to a feistier version of Glenda after she decides to put the funeral parlour on sale without consulting her brother, though she also hides a certain vulnerability.

"I think that deep down, Glenda — as much as she likes to throw a game of bingo — has that fight in her that all northern women do," she said. "When push comes to shove, they're ready to rock and roll!"

Speaking about future scenes, Prenger said: "I think Glenda is vulnerable but hides under the backcombing or shoulder pads. We'll see that in stories to come as well."

Speaking about the disagreement between the two siblings, George star Tony Maudsley explained why his character is hesitant to involve Glenda in the family business.

"He's in this quandary of not [wanting] to short-change his sister, but also not wanting to hand her half a business that she's going to sink into the ground in five seconds, if she gets her hands on it!" he said.

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
