Coronation Street boss promises huge aftermath to Stephen Reid's exit

Coronation Street producer Iain MacLeod has previewed the aftermath of Stephen Reid's exit.
ITV has now confirmed that cast member Todd Boyce's final scenes will air from the week of October 9 as part of the annual Super Soap Week — where all of Stephen's sins will catch up to him.
Throughout the week, Audrey will learn that her son has stolen her house, yet Stephen will make one last bid to escape justice by trying to drain the factory's bank account and taking Tim Metcalfe hostage.
Whether the serial killer will face justice remains to be seen, but producer Iain MacLeod has promised the impact of Super Soap Week will be felt for a long time to come.

"It's kind of like when you watch a movie, the movie can end and it's the end of the film, and that's that. Your protagonist walks off into the sunset as the credits roll, but obviously soap doesn't end. It goes on," he told Digital Spy and other media.
"You need to have the sequel to the movie in your heads even before you've started telling the story of the first movie.
"There are wide-ranging consequences to Stephen's exit, both emotionally and practically and criminally going forward… In the grand tradition of sequels, I hope what you're about to see is, kind of, Godfather Part II, which is one of the best sequels ever, and not Ace Ventura 2."
MacLeod expressed confidence that his team have "nailed" both Stephen's exit and the aftermath, saying: "Crimes of this scale are going to be huge so it's going to be an exciting few months on Coronation Street."
MacLeod promised that this final week for Stephen will "look very cinematic while still very Coronation Street" as the clock ticks down on the murderer's secrets being exposed.
"It's so chock-full of twists… the week as a whole, you just don't know which way to turn," the producer added. "It's incredibly exciting. The performances are great… It's also really funny.
"It helps having the Platt family at the middle of a lot of it because their interplay is just hilarious at the best of times. It's just a really brilliant, kind of blackly-comedic week as well at certain parts… There's bits in it where you just think, 'I would have never seen that coming'."
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
