Conwell-Egan hires former Archbishop Wood coach Tait for boys basketball

Former Philadelphia Catholic League Northern Division MVP Sean Tait became Conwell-Egan's new boys basketball coach Thursday.

Tait served as the head coach at Archbishop Wood in 2008-09, guiding the Vikings to a 16-7 record and earning Bucks County Courier Times Coach of the Year honors.

He spent 12 seasons (2009-21) at alma mater Father Judge, making the Philadelphia Catholic League playoffs nine times and was named PCL co-Coach of the Year in 2016-17. For the past three seasons, Tait was associate head coach at Delaware Valley University.

"The (Conwell-Egan) campus is beautiful," said Tait, 47, on Thursday night. "They put a lot of work into the facilities and I had a good feeling when I interviewed with the administration."

A 6-foot-2 guard, Tait earned PCL MVP laurels as a Judge senior in 1994-95 and led Division III Cabrini to the 1996-97 Presidents Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship, averaging 17.1 points and earning first-team All-PAC recognition.

A social studies teacher at Father Judge, Tait is also assistant director and head coach of Philly Revolution AAU.

Conwell-Egan, a Class 4A school, went 2-11 in the Catholic League last season under Tyrone Lewis after compiling a 1-12 PCL record in 2022-23.

"The president, Matt Fischer, has set up Egan to be successful and I believe Egan is a sleeping giant," Tait said.
