Conway man stole an ambulance and crashed it, police say

A Conway man has been arrested after police said he stole an ambulance late last week, according to police reports.

Albert Hickman, 34, has been charged with grand larceny, according to online booking records. He was arrested Dec. 8 and is still incarcerated as of Monday morning.

After arriving on scene of a crash on U.S. Highway 501 and Burning Ridge Road, an officer said he received a dispatch about an ambulance stolen from Cypress Circle.

When he asked Hickman, who was receiving medical treatment, about the crashed ambulance, Hickman simply said, “I stole it,” according to an incident report.

The officer had went to the scene of the crash to assist South Carolina Highway Patrol, who had first responded to the wreck. But it is not clear if highway patrol knew Hickman had stolen it before the officer got there.

In the report, it states the ambulance was off the road and sitting near the woods.

He was given a citation for driving under suspension and reckless driving, according to the report.

Hickman’s bail is set at $17,540, online records show.
