Convicted sex offender will likely spend life behind bars for sexually assaulting, murdering two boys in the 1980s

A child predator will likely spend the rest of his life behind bars for the sexual assault and killings of two young boys in California during the 1980s.

Kenneth Rasmuson on Monday pleaded no contest to the decades-old murders of Jeffrey Vargo and Miguel Antero, both 6 years old.

“This was a heinous offense and this individual will not share the sidewalk with the rest of us,” Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón said in a statement.

Vargo’s body was discovered on July 3, 1981 by construction workers at a Pomona construction site. The boy was last seen alive leaving his Anaheim Hills home the day before to checkout a nearby fireworks display.

Just less than five years later, Miguel Antero disappeared from his on April 8, 1986. His body was found the same day in a canyon in Agoura Hills. He had been stabbed multiple times, according to the Orange County Register.

Investigators used DNA evidence to link Rasmuson to both crimes, and he was arrested in March 2015 in Sandpoint, Idaho. Authorities also discovered child pornography on the suspect’s possession at the time.

The 59-year-old predator is expected to be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole on April 27. Rasmuson has previously served time for sexually assaulting an 11-year-old boy in Santa Barbara County and a 3-year-old boy in Los Angeles.
