A new hospital is planned for Carolina Forest, as other medical facilities are also set to open in the area.

McLeod Health announced it would break ground this fall on the new hospital, according to a press release Sept. 26. The hospital will be part of an expansion of building 1 and building 2 on the 42-acre Carolina Forest campus.

The press release added McLeod received a Certificate of Need from the state, demonstrating a need for a hospital, according to the release. Construction would take 24 months pending permitting.

The hospital will have 48 beds and four operating suites, according to the press release. The new facility will be about 83,000 square feet and will cost $56 million.

McLeod has been expanding in Horry County recently. The new hospital would be the network’s eighth.

In June, McLeod announced that they would build a new cancer research center in Little River. Ground was broken on the new cancer center in July.
