Connolly transfer student leads Durfee boys to opening win: Top performers (Dec. 8-9)

BOSTON — It was a big night for Jah Stephenson.

The Bishop Connolly transfer student scored a team-high 31 points for the Hilltopper in his season debut to lead the Durfee boys basketball team to a 83-72 win over East Boston in Friday's opener for both teams.

Senior guard Jeyden Espinal netted 26 points and Eric Lucas added 10 points. Davontae Stewart had seven points and had double-digits in rebounds.

Durfee (1-0) travels to O'Bryant on Monday.

Girls Basketball

The Hilltoppers won their season opener, beating non-league Fairhaven at home, 54-12. Maddie Hargraves finished in double figures with 10 points. Julia Hargraves had nine points and Mya Hayes Paulette added eight points in the win.
