The Conners’ Jackie Makes a Huge Life Change in Season 6 Premiere — Plus, New Main Title Sequence Revealed

The Conners kicked off Season 6 with a pair of big changes — the first of which came in the form of a new main title sequence (see above).

The second, which came at the tail end of Wednesday’s premiere, involved a transition of power at The Lunch Box.

A visit from Gordon Ramsay-wannabe Adam Chestnut (Nick Offerman) helped Jackie see that she’s no longer invested in the daily goings-on at the restaurant. “I used [up my life] trying to prove to my mother that I could be successful at something,” she explained. “I thought, ‘Maybe if I can make this place a success, that would really do it.’ But when I found [my husband] Neville, I just realized that I didn’t need approval, I needed love, and now I never want us to be apart.”

And so, Jackie handed the keys to the family business over to someone who has a vested interest in keeping it afloat: Darlene’s twenty-something daughter Harris, who has come to the realization that she doesn’t want to be a tattoo artist for the rest of her life and wouldn’t mind bossing Becky and Louise around.

Wednesday’s premiere — the first of 13 new episodes — also unveiled the Roseanne spinoff’s second title sequence refresh in as many seasons. It’s the first in the offshoot’s history to exclude Jayden Rey, who played DJ’s daughter Mary and was written out of the series after Season 5.

Her exit, which TVLine first confirmed in January, comes one season after The Conners parted ways with her TV dad, Michael Fishman, who was written out following Season 4.

The new opening features Dan (John Goodman), Jackie (Laurie Metcalf), Darlene (Sara Gilbert), Becky (Lecy Goranson), Harris (Emma Kenney), Mark (Ames McNamara) and Ben (Jay R. Ferguson) at the kitchen table as they feast on tacos.

Not present are Dan’s wife Louise or Jackie’s husband Neville, whose portrayers, Katey Sagal and Nat Faxon, remain recurring guest stars in Season 6.

Between Roseanne and The Conners, the sitcom franchise has cycled through 14 main title sequences over its combined 16-season run. Only two of those refreshes — which came in Roseanne Seasons 8 and 9 — did not feature the family gathered at the kitchen table, dining on takeout food.
