The New York Times

The New York Times game resets every day at midnight, and some puzzles are easier than others. I've practically lost my mind trying to categorize the groups of words one day (like today), just to get them all super easily another day—it's hard to know what to expect.

Today, I struggled—to say the least. I could find three words that shared a connection, just to be left dumbfounded about which option was supposed to be the fourth word in the category. What is a trilobite, anyway?! I should have looked up its meaning while playing.

Anyway, having trouble with Thursday's puzzle? It's not just you, so let's give some hints to see if that helps before revealing the answers.

Specifically, here are the words in each New York Times' Connections category:

1. Slang For Clothes: Duds, Getup, Outfit, Threads

2. Extinct Animals: Dodo, Mammoth, Mastodon, Trilobite

3. Failures: Busts, Flops, Misses, Turkeys

4. Kiss: Peck, Smack, Smooch, X

How'd you do?

While playing, I ran into issues where I saw Mastodon, X and Threads and thought: social media apps are in one category! Wrong. I also wondered if Turkeys belonged with Dodo, Mammoth and Mastodon (wrong again).

P.S,—it's going to bother me if I don't share, so, according to Merriam-Webster, trilobite's meaning is: "any of numerous extinct Paleozoic marine arthropods (group Trilobita) having the segments of the body divided by furrows on the dorsal surface into three lobes."
