Condoleezza Rice Mentioned For NCAA President: Fans React
With NCAA president Mark Emmert planning to retire in 2023, a lot of high-profile people have been named candidates for the job. But few if any of the candidates are more profile than former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.
It’s hardly the first-time that Rice has been linked to a major job in college sports. Rice previously served as a member of the College Football Playoff Selection Committee until 2016.
But Rice has also been linked to jobs that she probably doesn’t have much of a right to be attached to. Back in 2016, a report named her as a candidate for the Cleveland Browns’ head coaching job despite her lack of experience. This was almost immediately refuted by Browns ownership.
College sports fans are largely rolling their eyes at the idea of the former Secretary of State being linked to the job. Some fans are ready for the jokes they can make if it does happen. Others made reference to her controversial time in the Bush administration in dismissing the idea:

Condoleezza Rice’s career began in academia. She taught political science at Stanford in the 1980s and served as the school’s provost in the 1990s.
Her extensive knowledge of political theory earned her a high-profile job in the administration of President George W. Bush, where she became a national security advisor.
In 2005, Rice was confirmed as Secretary of State, becoming the first African-American woman to hold the position.
Condoleezza Rice can help run a country. Whether she can run the NCAA is a different story.
