A recap and roundup of Week 10 high school football action in San Angelo and the Concho Valley.

Key Outcomes

Odessa Permian 42, San Angelo Central 14

Central (1-8, 0-4) was eliminated from playoff contention last night with the loss to Permian (5-4, 2-2). The Panthers jumped out on the Bobcats with a 21-0 first quarter but Central responded in the second to cut the Permian lead to two scores at 28-14. Despite 436 yards and two touchdowns passing from Central quarterback Christian English, the Bobcats struggled with turnovers and were held out of the endzone in the second half.

Central finishes the season next week with a matchup against Frenship at home.

Grape Creek 20, Brady 13

Brady (3-6, 2-2) started with an early 7-0 lead in the first quarter on a three-yard touchdown run. Grape Creek responded in the second quarter with a touchdown but trailed 7-6 after the point-after attempt missed. After a lightning delay postponed the second-half kickoff, Brady scored another touchdown on a 30-yard run to go up 13-6. Grape Creek turned the momentum in the fourth quarter, though, scoring on a touchdown pass and taking advantage of a Brady fumble to take the 20-13 lead. Brady had a chance to tie or take the lead in the fourth quarter but turned the ball over on downs inside the Eagles 20-yard line.

Despite the loss, Brady still sits in third place in District 2-3A Division II because it holds the tiebreaker over TLCA San Angelo. Grape Creek can steal a playoff spot from Brady if they beat Ballinger next week and if Brady loses to Wall.

Ozona 28, Forsan 14

One year after finishing fifth in District 3-2A Division I, Ozona (5-4, 3-1) beat Forsan (7-2, 3-1) to take second place in the district with one week of the regular season remaining. The Lions struck first in the second quarter on a touchdown run from Dusty Smith and extended their lead by three scores before Forsan scored in the third quarter. Ozona scored again to take a 28-7 lead on a 46-yard touchdown rush from Christian Villarreal before Forsan scored at the end of the fourth quarter for the final score of the game.

With the win, Ozona can snag the second spot in the district with a win over Anthony or if Sonora beats Forsan next week.

Iraan 28, Eldorado 20

Eldorado (5-4, 2-3) grabbed a big shutout win over Sterling City last week for a chance to finish second in the highly competitive District 2-2A Division II. After going up 14-0 in the first quarter to Iraan (4-5, 1-3), the Braves outscored the Eagles 27-7 over the next three quarters. For the Eagles to grab the fourth and final playoff spot, they need McCamey to beat Iraan in Week 11, or they will fall just short of a playoff spot.

Roscoe 34, Miles 33

The Bulldogs (6-3, 2-2) comeback attempt against the Plowboys (7-2, 3-1) fell just short. Trailing 34-14 in the third quarter, Miles made a furious comeback led by quarterback Hayven Book who completed 13 of 22 passes for 211 yards and three touchdowns, but fell short with a 34-33 loss on the road.

Despite the loss, Miles still clinched a playoff spot with Albany's win over Hamlin, however, the Bulldogs can not finish higher than third in the district. Miles still has plenty to play for, though, because a loss to Cross Plains in Week 11 would drop them to fourth in the district.

Other Notes

  • Mason clinched its 13th straight district title with a 40-21 win over Stockdale.

  • Brownwood clinched the outright district championship with a 28-14 win over Andrews despite an early weather delay.

  • Wall clinched the outright district championship with a 50-6 win over Early and Brady's loss to Grape Creek.

  • With Bronte's 46-42 upset win over Blackwell, the Longhorns clinched a playoff spot for the first time since 2016.

  • San Angelo TLCA clinched a playoff spot with a win over Ballinger and Brady's loss to Grape Creek.
