A Comprehensive Guide to Taylor Swift's NFL Era Style

When Taylor Swift showed up at the Kansas City Chiefs game on September 24, 2023, it was all anyone could talk about. Was Swift really dating Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce? Was it a publicity stunt, or was it real life romance? Would she go to more games? Little did we know at the time that Swift was entering her NFL era, and would go on to attend as many Chiefs games as her schedule allowed—including on Christmas Day and New Years Eve, in subzero temperatures for the playoffs, and even to kiss and congratulate Kelce on the field after his victory in the AFC Championship Game (and then again after his victory in the Super Bowl).

Swift quickly became a regular at Kelce's games, sporting Chiefs merch, celebrating touchdowns with other fans, and generally seeming to have a great time. In other words, she became a full-fledged football fan. As she said in December, "When you say a relationship is public, that means I’m going to see him do what he loves, we’re showing up for each other, other people are there and we don’t care. The opposite of that is you have to go to an extreme amount of effort to make sure no one knows that you’re seeing someone. And we’re just proud of each other."

Throughout the thirteen games she attended this season, Swift's style has been consistent. Sarah Chapelle, who covers the pop star's fashion at Taylor Swift Style (on Instagram @taylorswiftstyled) and is the author of the forthcoming Taylor Swift Style: Fashion Through the Eras, tells T&C that Swift's NFL era is "feminine, thoughtful, and on-theme." She explains, "Taylor's NFL era style reflects the same level of intention and care she brings to all her fashion. Even as a sports spectator, Taylor is someone who is fully aware of the weight of her fashion choices. I love that she's taken the same level of care in her game day style and the brands and businesses she supports with her outfits as she does with all her fashion. The level of intention she brings to her style makes her so fun to watch as a fan."

Her outfits have stuck to the formula, Chapelle explains, including "a stylish coat paired with a simple base, in Chiefs colors naturally, and a heeled boot." September 24, 2023

For her first-ever appearance at a Chiefs game, Swift kept it casual in a Dôen button-up tank top, a Chiefs windbreaker, black denim Ksubi shorts, and New Balance 550 sneakers. (The sneakers were in red and white, obviously.) She also wore a Jacquie Aiche diamond crescent earring (as you can see in this photo), and carried a Louis Vuitton camera box bag. For her first game, she kept her credential on, wearing a Chiefs lanyard.

Months after this, Swift spoke about the start of their relationship, saying they were dating by the time she showed up to the first game. "This all started when Travis very adorably put me on blast on his podcast, which I thought was metal as hell," she said. "We started hanging out right after that. So we actually had a significant amount of time that no one knew, which I’m grateful for, because we got to get to know each other. By the time I went to that first game, we were a couple. I think some people think that they saw our first date at that game? We would never be psychotic enough to hard launch a first date.”

Her second Chiefs game was when they played the Jets at MetLife Stadium, and a huge cohort of Swift's famous friends—including Blake Lively, pictured—joined her. Swift went more New York style for this game, wearing Area denim shorts, a black faux leather jacket from Gant, and Christian Louboutin Pumppie boots—her first of many Louboutins she would wear to games.

For her fourth Chiefs game, Swift really leaned into the merch and wore a vintage sweatshirt along with a black mini skirt. She accessorized with meaningful bracelets—including one with Kelce's number, a Foundrae heart bracelet, and a Jacquie Aiche evil eye bracelet. She also wore Reformation's Lolita platform loafers.

This is one of Chapelle's favorite Swift game day looks, explaining, "I loved the vintage sweatshirt she wore to the Chargers vs Chiefs game because it came from Ellie Mae Studios, a small Toronto-based business."

After a hiatus from games due to the Latin American leg of her Eras Tour, Swift returned—at a game in Green Bay, Wisconsin at Lambeau Field! For the occasion, she wore a warm and fuzzy Stella McCartney belted teddy coat (sadly out of stock) and Stuart Weitzman boots. She also wore Vrai's linked tennis earrings.

Swift was back in Kansas City a few days before her birthday, and though the Chiefs lost this game, we counted it as a style win—mainly for her highly covetable Larroude Kate boots. She also wore a vintage crewneck sweatshirt, and Mazin and Mejuri rings.

"I also loved seeing her wear the ‘Heirloom’ ring by Canadian jewelry brand Mejuri," Chapelle says. "I’ve not only loved and worn Mejuri for years but have also owned that particular ring for years so it felt like a fashionable crossing of paths."

Another away game for the Chiefs, and Swift was there to cheer them on. For their match against the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium, Swift opted for another vintage Chiefs sweatshirt, and a custom knit beanie that featured the number '87' (Kelce's number).

Kathryn Cacho, who knit the beanie, works for Westside Storey, where Swift ordered the vintage sweatshirts. "When I heard that she ordered from the store, I immediately thought I wanted to make her something to include in the package," Cacho told the Kansas City Star. "So I crocheted it the night before the package was sent out." When she saw the superstar wear her hat, she freaked out, saying, it was "obviously super excited to see her actually wearing it and seeing the support from her fans is amazing."

On Christmas, Swift proved she was clearly a dedicated fan, showing up with her family to watch the game. For the Christmas Day game, she went all in on the Christmas spirit, wearing a custom Santa hat with '87' on the brim. Underneath her hat, she accessorized with Jennifer Behr's Virginia Bow Barrette and Kristel Bobby Pin Set.

For the day, she wore a red Polo Ralph Lauren sweater and Hill House Home skirt, along with Prada heeled loafers and a jacket from her friend Gigi Hadid's Guest in Residence brand.

For the final Chiefs game of 2023 on New Year's Eve, Swift wore a custom varsity jacket designed by Jeff Hamilton—matching a very similar jacket that Kelce wore the weekend before. She wore an all black outfit with the jacket, and Christian Louboutin boots.

However, her standout style of New Year's Eve came after this game, when she wore a sparkling Clio Peppiatt minidress (the same label she wore to her birthday party in New York City) and a celestial-themed bobby pin set from Jennifer Behr.

In the first round of the playoffs, the Chiefs faced the Miami Dolphins in the AFC Wild Card Playoffs in freezing cold, subzero temperatures at Arrowhead stadium. For the occasion, Swift wore a custom Travis Kelce puffer jacket, designed by Kristin Juszczyk, the wife of Kyle Juszczyk, who plays for the San Francisco 49ers.

Kyle was his wife's biggest hype man, saying he was "so stoked for [Kristin] because I know how hard she worked, how hard she grinded. To see Taylor wearing it — and it looked incredible — it was awesome. We were so happy in our house." Kristin called it "an honor of a lifetime" on her Instagram.

For the AFC Divisional Playoff game between the Chiefs and the Buffalo Bills in Buffalo, Swift forwent Chiefs merch for a Gant varsity jacket, a red beanie, and a Little Liffner saddle bag.

"Her fashion at games has definitely evolved over the course of the season, starting from a casual pair of custom New Balance 550s and an unassuming tank top and shorts all the way to the present in 87-covered custom jackets or oversized outerwear and tall, high heeled leather boots," Chapelle tells T&C. "I like to think of it as an evolution in growing sureness in not only the relationship as it progresses but in her feeling comfortable to proudly and confidently take up space."

For the last game before the Super Bowl—the AFC Championships—Swift joined Kelce on the field, embracing him and congratulating him on the win.

For the game day, she wore a Guest in Residence sweater, a black mini skirt, Sheertex tights, and Christian Louboutin knee high boots. She also accessorized with some meaningful jewelry, including a Chiefs necklace, a Wove custom diamond tennis bracelet created by Michelle Wie West that read 'TNT' (for Taylor & Travis), and a ring from EB and Co. that featured '87' on a jersey.
