Sabrina Carpenter References Barry Keoghan’s ‘Saltburn’ in ‘Nonsense’ Performance

Rumors of a relationship between pop star Sabrina Carpenter and Saltburn actor Barry Keoghan have been circulating since late 2023, though neither party has confirmed anything yet.

Keoghan recently split from Alyson Kierans, a dental nurse and orthodontic therapist, with whom he shares a son named Brando, born in August 2022. The couple broke up in July 2023 after two and a half years together. A source told The Sun that the former couple are “determined to do the best for their son....They’ve grown apart over recent months and things have finally come to a head….As far as she’s concerned, it’s over.”

As for Carpenter, she was last romantically linked to Shawn Mendes in early 2023.

It was suspected that the Irish actor would make his first public appearance with Carpenter at the Golden Globes in January 2024, but the two wound up walking separately. That doesn’t mean they’ve stopped seeing each other, though. Here’s Carpenter and Keoghan’s complete relationship timeline so far.

Carpenter attended an advanced screening of Saltburn in New York City on September 20. She was photographed posing with a fan and may have already been a fan of him herself.

Sept. 28, 2023

Both were seen at Givenchy’s spring/summer 2024 show during Paris Fashion Week on September 28. Though they were photographed separately, it’s supposedly where they first met.

In photos shared by the Daily Mail, Carpenter and Keoghan were spotted having a “romantic dinner” in Brentwood, California.

It was suspected the new couple might attend the Golden Globes together. A source claimed in The Sun that the Eternals star gave Kierans a heads up about his planned relationship reveal.

“Barry thought it was best that Alyson was the first to know about him and Sabrina so she wouldn’t be hurt if she found out on social media,” the source alleged. “He is spending a lot of time in the States and has invited Sabrina to be his ‘plus one’ at the Golden Globes. Alyson and Barry still communicate for the sake of Brando, and he has been open about his new relationship.”

But they were again photographed separately on the red carpet.

The pair were seen at Luna Luna, an interactive art museum in Los Angeles on Saturday, January 13.

“It definitely seemed like a date,” an eyewitness told People, adding they were “cute” together and “shared a little kiss.”

Feb. 4, 2024

Carpenter and Keoghan made their first public appearance together at W magazine’s Grammys after-party, seemingly confirming their rumored romance. While Carpenter walked the red carpet by herself, she was reportedly seen cozying up to the Saltburn star inside during the event. W Magazine even posted a photo of the two of them together, but both of them were bashfully covering their faces.

On Thursday, February 8, TMZ asked Keoghan about his plans for Valentine's Day after catching up with him in an alley in Los Angeles. The actor was obligingly signing autographs and taking selfies with fans and even answering questions about a Jacob Elordi bathwater candle. But when questioned about Sabrina Carpenter...he stopped responding.

Carpenter was similarly coy when she made an appearance on Nova's Smallzy's Surgery on February 22. The show's host, Smallzy, otherwise known as Kent Small, asked Carpenter if she'd seen Saltburn, Keoghan's popular movie.

“You know, I have,” she replied.

Smallzy pushed the question, asking, “Did you love it?”

Carpenter replied, “Oh, I loved it. Such a good movie... Anyways, I gotta go to the bathroom.”

They then moved on to other topics.

Feb. 24, 2024

On Friday, February 24, Carpenter shared some clips and pics from her duet with Taylor Swift in Sydney, Australia, where she's the opening act for the Eras Tour. A weather related issue delayed the show recently, meaning Carpenter couldn't perform, but Swift invited her on stage to sing a mashup of “White Horse” and “Coney Island,” which thrilled the younger pop star.

“9 year old Sabrina singing ‘White Horse’ would never see this sh-t coming!” Carpenter wrote in the caption of her post. “I love you so so so dearly Taylor. Always have always will.”

In the comments, Keoghan left a queen emoji in support.

In a photo shared by fan account Pop Crave, Keoghan could be seen at Taylor Swift's Eras tour concert in Singapore where Carpenter was opening.

He appeared to be alone in a closed off section of the arena, wearing a cream tank top and matching long shorts, plus a red hat.

Keoghan gave Carpenter a public shout-out—and shared more proof they are dating. At an Academy Awards dinner with Louis Vuitton and W magazine in Los Angeles, the actor was seen wearing a Taylor Swift-style beaded friendship bracelet that reads “Sabrina.”

He also wore the bracelet the day before at an event with Vanity Fair and Instagram.

Carpenter was wrapping her performances up in Singapore when Keoghan wore the tribute.

For her digital cover with Cosmopolitan, Carpenter talked dating and relationships.

“A lot of it, for me, has been fate. I know that’s super broad, but I don’t actively look for it. The relationships that I actually want to put my energy into have to be so interesting or invigorating because they take me away from the other things I love. So yeah, it’s fun and it’s messy. I think I’m still just at this place where I’m really enjoying the newness of all of it,” she said.

During Coachella, Keoghan played the supportive boyfriend as Carpenter took the stage for her first performance at the music festival ever. Attendees shared a clip on X, formerly Twitter, of Keoghan in front of the stage filming Carpenter throughout her set.

Another video showed him stopping to just watch and enjoy Carpenter singing amongst the rest of her fans. They were later seen leaving her show together.

On Wednesday, April 17, TMZ shared pictures of Keoghan and Carpenter at Disney’s California Adventure with a group of friends. A source told the publication that the group headed to the theme park’s Mendocino Terrace for some wine. In the photos, the actor is wearing a blue baseball cap and matching graphic T-shirt. He appears to give Carpenter some adoring looks as she holds his hand and sips from an orange drink. She’s wearing blue denim and a white patterned shirt and carrying a small white handbag.

On Friday, April 19, Carpenter changed the outro of her hit “Nonsense” while on stage at Coachella, singing, “Man his knees so weak, he had to spread mine. He’s drinkin’ my bath water like it’s red wine.”

She added, “Coachella, see you back here when I headline.”

The new lyric sounds like a reference to Keoghan’ film Saltburn, which involves some explicit bathtub scenes to say the least. Fans reacted to the lyric change with screaming and clapping in the crowd. This year, Carpenter did not headline the festival, but she did have a mainstage time slot before Lil Uzi Vert, Peso Pluma, and headliner Lana Del Rey.
