They compete in real life and on reality TV. Married couple from Florida stars in HGTV show

HGTV is no stranger to married couples hosting their shows.

But an HGTV series that features a married couple competing against each other? That's the premise of the home and garden network's new show, "Divided by Design." Here's what we know about the HGTV docuseries featuring interior designers, Ray and Eilyn Jimenez of Florida.

What is 'Divided by Design' show on HGTV about?

In the new HGTV docuseries "Divided By Design," a South Florida couple, Ray and Eilyn Jimenez, runs dueling interior design firms and bid against each other for clients in the Miami housing market. The couple uses their professional rivalry to fuel their creativity in this nine-episode series, the network said. Ray favors a modern eclectic approach, while Eilyn blends old-world influences with a timeless functional vibe. Both aim to impress potential clients with their distinct design aesthetics — knowing that only one of them will close the deal and get a chance to deliver the remarkable transformation that every client wants, a press release states.

“We do the exact same thing, but we don’t work together. We’re the competition,” Ray Jimenez says in the release. “But regardless of who wins a client, we’re here to support each other no matter what.”

Eilyn admits clients reach out to both of them, and she and Ray bid for the same jobs. “However," she adds in the news release, "Ray and I have different design perspectives and approaches when it comes to each project. I wouldn’t want to be competing against anyone else besides my better half.”

According to HGTV, each episode follows the winning designer’s process from beginning to end, resulting in stunning reveals that encapsulate the style and flare that is intrinsically Miami. Alongside the primary design story, the duo also will check in on a high-end project, including the full gut renovation of their own home which has taken far longer than originally planned.

In the series premiere, Ray Jimenez and Eilyn Jimenez will vie for a $150,000 renovation project to overhaul an entryway, kitchen, child’s bedroom and combo living and dining area. Homeowner David is the client and the contractor, yet his dark masculine style conflicts with his wife Bella’s bright tropical vibe, an HGTV news release states. The chosen designer will help the couple balance their contradictory wishes by combining rich wood tones with light and airy furniture pieces to create a spectacular space that the family will love.
