Joel McHale's Christmas slasher It's a Wonderful Knife has garnered a decent Rotten Tomatoes score ahead of release this weekend.

At the time of writing, the movie, which also stars Barbarian's Justin Long and Yellowjackets actress Jane Widdop, is sitting pretty with a 74% rating on the review aggregator site.

In the same vein as last year's Violent Night, It's a Wonderful Knife spills bucketloads of blood on another Christmas classic, with the synopsis reading: "A year after saving her town from a psychotic killer on Christmas Eve, Winnie Carruthers' life is less than wonderful – but when she wishes she'd never been born, she finds herself in a nightmare parallel universe and discovers that without her, things could be much, much worse.

Bloody Disgusting

"It's a Wonderful Knife is ultimately far more successful as a winsome story of teens fighting back against an oppressive force over Christmas and saving each other in the process. It's a Hallmark holiday movie for outcasts and horror fans alike, delivering no shortage of holiday cheer perfect for this time of year."

SlashFilm

"[Writer] Michael Kennedy and [director] Tyler MacIntyre adore Christmas as much as they love horror cinema, which blends into a meta-parody of family channel hallmarks without losing their soothing sincerity.

"It's a Wonderful Knife might make its points with steel blades, but that doesn't negate the saccharine earnestness that assures this one as a new Christmas horror favourite with a heart three sizes bigger than you'd expect."

Elements of Madness

"Feels like it could become staple Halloween *or* Christmas Eve viewing for some folks. It could serve either to bridge the gap between holidays or just give those who enjoy less traditional entertainment something else to brighten their darkest night.

"A film that understands that darkness can always be filled with light and vice versa. So put on some comfy pjs, make some hot cocoa, and get snuggly (in the theater or at home when it hits Shudder), the yuletide massacre is about to begin and you won't want to miss it."

It's a Wonderful Knife hits US cinemas this Friday (November 10), while UK fans can catch it over on streamer Shudder.
