Community star Joel McHale is set to star in a new TV comedy movie, and it has landed a release date very soon.

Office Race focuses on an unambitious office worker named Pat (played by former Saturday Night Live star Beck Bennett) who discovers he loves marathons, and tries to one-up his fitness-obsessed and micro-managing boss Spencer (McHale).

Deadline now confirms that the film will debut on Comedy Central in the US on September 4.

The movie also packs an impressive wider cast, including Buffy The Vampire Slayer's Alyson Hannigan as Pat's same-named girlfriend Pat, who is growing tired of his lackadaisical approach in life.

Frasier’s Kelsey Grammer plays Coach B, an oft-injured marathoner who owns a local running store, while Spider-Man's JB Smoove is former world champion race-walker Harry, who touts the purity of his niche sport and sticks his nose up at the running community.

Also on board are Big Sky's Kylie Bunbury, A Christmas Story Christmas' Erinn Hayes, 500 Days of Summer's Geoffrey Arend, iCarly's Katlyn Carlson, That Damn Michael Che's Matt Richards and You Hurt My Feelings' Karolena Theresa.

Office Race will be directed by Jared Lapidus, who co-wrote it with Impractical Jokers' James Kilmoon.

As well as Office Race, McHale is currently gearing up for the long-awaited Community movie, which he recently suggested could be delayed due to the Hollywood strikes.

"I'm not exactly sure, but I'm guessing it's not going to start on time," he said to Collider in May following the start of the Writers Guild of America (WGA) strikes.

"I don’t say this lightly, but I stand with the WGA, and there’s no doubt that pay has gone down 23% since 2007, and that needs to change."

Office Race will debut on Comedy Central in the US on September 4.
