“I always want to hear from my constituents about issues big and small so that I am best representing them at the State House," Carson said in a statement. "This is just one opportunity to get together to chat about legislation and local issues – I want to encourage my constituents to reach out to me at any time outside of this meeting as well.”

Carson leads two statewide legislative study commissions. The Special Legislative Commission to Study and Provide Recommendations Pertaining to Services and Coordination of State Programs Relating to Older Adult Rhode Islanders will make recommendations for ways to improve and coordinate services and programs for older adults in Rhode Island. The second commission is studying the economic and social effects of the short-term rental industry in Rhode Island. This commission is evaluating the current laws around property usage and the impact of short-term rentals on the community. The Representative will discuss both commissions at the constituent meeting.

Community Tree Program open in Newport

The Newport Tree Conservancy and the City of Newport are once again partnering to connect residents with free and reduced-cost tree plantings, just in time for spring. The Community Tree Program allows all Newport residents to request a new tree to be planted in front of their home. Residents can request a planting for along their sidewalk or roadway, or up to 20 feet onto private property. Interested applicants can choose from 11 different species ofshade and flowering trees to fit their space, from towering maples to dazzling cherries.

Supply is limited and applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. If approved, trees will be provided free of charge for streets and neighborhoods with lower existing tree canopy (inquire or see website for details) or otherwise for the subsidized cost of $125. Tree plantings will be performed by the City of Newport Public Services Department beginning in early April. Trees will range from 6-8ft tall at the time of planting.

Visit newporttreeconservancy.org/CTP to learn more about the program, see photos of available trees, and submit an application. For consultations to determine the best tree for your space call the Newport Tree Conservancy at 401-324-9204 or email trees@newporttreeconservancy.org.
