Commissioners approve funds for pavement and bridge projects in Ashland County

Ashland County commissioners accepted four bids from various companies totaling just under $4.5 million for the road maintenance projects, all on the recommendation of County Engineer Ed Meixner.

A $1.65 million bid from Asphalt Materials for liquid asphalt, a $1 million bid from Adena Corp. for the bridge structure replacement, a $1.55 million bid from Melway Paving for the asphalt and concrete paving program and a $276,184 bid from JD Striping Services for the pavement marking project were the four accepted Thursday.

“That is the bridge nobody can see on West Main Street,” said Commissioner Denny Bittle on the second bid dealing with the bridge. “Ed said he has talked to Adena on this project and it is anticipated to start sometime in June. It is scheduled to be completed by Nov. 1.”
