Colusa edges East Nicolaus to finish 10-0; RedHawks top overall seed in football playoffs

Nov. 6—Colusa High football put the finishing touches on its first 10-0 season in over two decades with a 21-18 win at East Nicolaus Friday night in Trowbridge in south Sutter County.

The RedHawks won its first game over East Nicolaus since 2014, snapping a seven-game slide against its league and playoff division rival.

Colusa quarterback Bo Coronado completed 11-of-16 passes for 156 yards to four different receivers. Landon Humphrey led the way with eight catches for 121 yards and a score. On the ground, Adan Travis rushed for over 100 yards and two touchdowns to lead Colusa's ground attack.

Colusa earned the top overall seed in the Northern Section Division IV playoffs and will host through the D-IV final, scheduled for the night before Thanksgiving.

East Nicolaus (5-5) collected a four-seed and will host Williams (3-7), of Colusa County, at 7 p.m. Friday, in the opening round of the NSCIF D-IV playoffs.

Prep volleyball playoffs

East Nicolaus completed the 3-peat on Saturday with a come-from-behind five-set (16-25, 24-26, 25-15, 25-17, 15-12) win over No. 3 Trinity, out of Weaverville, Saturday in the Northern Section Division V girls volleyball championship at Foothill (Palo Cedro).

The top-seeed Spartans trailed early two-sets-to-none and were forced to win three straight to capture that elusive third straight title, the first since Fall River in 2017.

Junior Jadyn Hoffman had a team-high 29 kills on a .328 percentage, while senior Tiare Faupula provided 20 kills. Junior setter Addy Tagala provided 44 assists, while Faupula led the team defensively with 16 digs.

East Nicolaus (28-2) earned a six-seed and will host No. 11 West Campus (35-4) in the first round of the California Interscholastic Federation Northern California state Division IV playoffs at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Trowbridge in South Sutter County.
