Veteran quarterback Joe Flacco signed a one-year contract with the Indianapolis Colts, reportedly for $8.7 million.

Flacco fills the role Gardner Minshew played last season, as a veteran backup in case Anthony Richardson gets injured. Minshew played most of 2023, but he signed with the Las Vegas Raiders in free agency.

Flacco, who had not played all season, joined the quarterback-starved Cleveland Browns in December and led them to a 4-1 record late in the regular season.

The Browns lost his debut, but they won his next four starts as he completed 60.3% of his passes for 1,616 yards, 13 touchdowns and 8 interceptions.

Flacco completed 34-of-46 passes for 307 yards, 1 TD and 2 INTs in a 45-14 playoff loss to the Houston Texans.

He was named, somewhat controversially, NFL Comeback Player of the Year over Buffalo's Damar Hamlin, who saw little playing time in the 2023 season after being revived on the field late in the 2022 season.
