Colts pick offensive lineman Matt Goncalves in third round of 2024 NFL draft

INDIANAPOLIS — The Colts gave up their sixth-round pick, No. 191, traded up three spots in the third round from No. 82 to No. 79 and took Pittsburgh offensive lineman Matt Goncalves, a tackle in college who may have the versatility to play guard at the next level. Goncalves, a 6-6, 327-pounder, only played three games as a senior.

Matt Goncalves scouting report

Goncalves is a surprising pick to say the least, an offensive tackle who doesn't particularly fit the athletic benchmarks Indianapolis typically wants in tackles. Indianapolis did not have a glaring need at the offensive line. Blake Freeland saw significant time as the team's swing tackle last season, and Wesley French was the team's top interior backup. The Colts have two starters, center Ryan Kelly and right guard Will Fries, who are free agents after the season.

Matt Goncalves stats, higlights

Goncalves was a part-time starter for the first two seasons, then started all 13 games at offensive tackle, eight games at left tackle and five games at right tackle. As a senior, Goncalves opened the season as the starter at left tackle, then suffered a toe injury and missed the rest of the season.
