Colts Get Huge News Before Sunday’s Opening Game

A few weeks ago, the Indianapolis Colts weren’t sure if quarterback Carson Wentz and offensive guard Quenton Nelson would be ready to play Week 1 against the Seattle Seahawks. With kickoff less than 24 hours away, the team expects to have both stars available.

On Thursday, Colts head coach Frank Reich told reporters that Wentz was on track to suit up against the Seahawks. He wasn’t sure about Nelson’s status, though.

In addition to recovering from a foot injury, Nelson was dealing with some back pain. According to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, the back injury isn’t severe enough to keep Nelson out of action.

Not only is Colts QB Carson Wentz ready but OG Quenton Nelson also now good to go for Sunday’s game vs Seahawks,” Mortensen said. “Wentz no setbacks with foot this week. Nelson was questionable, more for back issues than foot, but he was good Friday, no issues today and cleared to start.”

This update shouldn’t really surprise any of us at this point. In August, Nelson said that he would do everything in his power to be ready for the Colts’ season opener.

“Third surgery of the offseason in the books, no time for pity,” Nelson wrote. “F**k that. Truth is, I’m thankful, thankful the early part of the time table says 5 weeks. That gives me 5 weeks to do everything I can physically and mentally to be ready to go Week 1 to smash these goals.”

Nelson is widely considered one of the best offensive guards in the NFL. If he’s anywhere close to 100 percent, he’ll make a big impact in Sunday’s game.

Kickoff for the Colts-Seahawks game is at 1 p.m. ET on FOX.
