College students should focus on studying instead of pardoning Hamas | Letters

Editor's Note:The recent wave of protests roiling America's college campuses prompted several letters from Post readers questioning the tactics of protestors and their understanding and opinions of Gaza, Israel and Palestinians.

Hamas' goal: spread anti-Israeli sentiment

American protesters of the Gaza war are just pawns in a larger game. Gaza civilians were long-term cover for Hamas tunneling operations. Israel’s war against Hamas meant heavy casualties among Gaza civilians, “collateral damage” from Hamas’ viewpoint. Digging Hamas out of Gaza and its tunnels calls for more war, casualties and anti-Israeli sentiment. One Hamas goal is building anti-Israeli sentiment around the world on its path to destroy Israel.

Protestors don't care about Gaza

The college campuses across our country are filled with protesters claiming concern with Israel's treatment of innocent Palestinians in Gaza. They shout genocide but let's be clear: There is no genocide, and there are no innocent Palestinians. The majority of these protesters are not Palestinian, they are students. They don't give two hoots about Gaza. Are they brainwashed by radical professors, or does it come down to Israel is a Jewish country?

Civilian deaths fueling college protests

Most of the students protesting across the country are neither pro-Hamas nor antisemitic, they are simply against the killing of innocent civilians in Gaza. These protests are no different from my generation, which protested the war in Vietnam. We were not pro-Vietcong; we were simply against the waste of innocent lives because all lives matter. And why have the police in a number of jurisdictions been given permission to disrupt peaceful protests when the right is enshrined in our democracy?

Anti-Israel protests eerily similar

The television news is filled these days with stories of pro-Palestinian protests on campuses nationwide. There are dozens and dozens of these "student protests." I noticed and wondered why all of these supposed student protests all look alike. The students all hold up the same banners, wear the same headdresses, chant the exact same protest calls against Israel and even have the same tents in their tent cities. How can supposed students across the country all have the same supplies, unless someone is supplying them? The presidents of several universities have said that it is outside agitators. From the look of things, I think those campus presidents are correct.

College protesters take privileges for granted

What appears to have been overlooked by many, including the students, is that each one should be very appreciative of being accepted into these colleges. It is not easy to obtain a great SAT score, very high GPA, and glowing letters of recommendation. Furthermore, a free ride via scholarships is prevalent. Sometimes it is prudent to think of the bigger picture and how doors may be easier to open with an Ivy league school on one's resume.
