Adrian College baseball coach and athletic director Craig Rainey got win No. 800 on Sunday as the Bulldogs beat Wooster, 8-7.

Getting the win on the mound for the Bulldogs was Hudson graduate Ambrose Horwath while Griffin Firestone got the final out for the save.

AJ Miranda hit a double and a home run while Rolando Jimenez had two hits with a triple and Joe Casale hit a double while Ryan Davis had three hits.

Bashing Bulldogs

Adrian completed the MIAA sweep of Trine on Tuesday with a 21-run, 18-hit game against the Thunder.

Nic Bruder was 3-for-6 with a double and two RBIs, Edward Wagner was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs and Miranda hit a double as well. The other 15 hits were all singles.

Luc St. Antonie, Robert Leonard, Broc Shoemaker (Onsted), Edward Bieniasz and Firestone combined to give up four runs, one earned, on six hits and two walks while striking out four.

The Bulldogs kept rolling in Game 1 against Calvin as they won on the road, 13-1.

Linken Hayward hit a 3-run home run while Easton Rogers went 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI and Bruder and three hits with three RBIs.

Jakob Charles gave up a run, on four hits, two walks and a strikeout in seven innings.

The Bulldogs dropped Game 2 in 11 innings, 3-2, but got the series win with an 11-1 victory.

Jimenez went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a triple with three RBIs while David Kedrow went 2-for-2 with a double.

Jaxon Clark gave up a run, on four hits and a walk while striking out nine.

Striking on the links

The Bulldogs' women's team followed up Saturday's tournament win with another one on Monday, taking Kalamazoo's Steven Tyler Memorial by seven shots against St. Mary's.

Lauren Reed was the medalist (4-over par) while Sara Bevington was fourth (+7), Ainslee Hewitt was sixth (+9) and Riley Kleck was eighth (+10).

Reed followed up her performance by taking fifth in the fourth MIAA jamboree while Kleck was 10th to lead the Bulldogs to a third-place finish.

Swinging the sticks

The men's lacrosse team ended a two-game losing streak with a 17-8 victory against Kalamazoo on Wednesday in MIAA play and followed it with a 14-5 win against Trine.

Tecumseh graduate Trace Tidswell had four goals and an assist while Alec Winegar scored a hat trick and Michael Jonas scored twice with five assists.

Jake Coakley had two goals and an assist while Brandon Hoerauf and Riley Edwards scored twice, Derek Hassel had a goal and an assist and Austin Selvage scored once.

Selvage led the scoring against Trine with four goals and an assist while Jonas had three goals and three assists and Edwards scored three times as well.

Cameron Reed had a goal and an assist while Coakley, Winegar and Messel all scored once and Hassel had three assists.

Weekly split

After dropping two to Hope, the Adrian softball team beat Albion twice, 7-3 and 10-9.

Macee Schang got the win, striking out eight and giving up three runs, on seven hits and two walks.

Karson Bagelmann hit a home run while Peyton Russell was a triple shy of the cycle and drove in three runs. Russell hit a 2-run home run in Game 2 while Taylor Gerhardt had two hits with a double and Paige Stein had two hits with a double.

Bagelmann and Meghan Lupu each had two hits while Abbi Patton got the win.

Ace

The Bulldogs' women kept a strong streak going with a third-straight shutout against Albion, 9-0, on Saturday.

Hye-Jin Elliot and Claire Earley won the No. 1 and No. 2 singles and joined to win the No. 1 doubles while Ellie Himebauch and Liv Depies won the No. 3 and No. 6 singles and the No. 2 doubles. Hope Busscher won No. 4 singles while Regan Snyder won at No. 5 and Jocelyn Smith and Maddison Wagner won at No. 3 doubles.

Adrian men's tennis snapped a six-dual losing streak with a 9-0 shutout of Olivet on Monday and followed it up with a 9-0 win against Albion on Saturday.

Kasper Olofsson won at No. 1 singles and joined Sebastian Smith to win at No. 1 doubles before doing it again Saturday, only this time with Luca Coutinho, who won both No. 2 singles.

Coutinho joined Sean Ruhf to win No. 2 doubles Monday and Saturday Ruhf won No. 2 doubles again, this time Jackson Wilcox, who won at No. 3 doubles Monday with Aiden Kuzma. Ruhf won both No. 4 singles while Smith won at No. 3 doubles with Darren Walter, who at No. 3 singles Monday and No. 6 on Saturday

Luke Holowinski won at No. 5 singles both days and Gavin Daum won at No. 6 on Monday.

New heights

At Ohio Northern's Mike Becraft Invite, the Adrian men took second while the women took fifth.

Cameron Overmyer won the men's pole vault at 14-feet-5.25-inches while Michael Wright won the 100-meter dash (10.76). Ciara Heslet won the women's high jump with a height of 5-1.25.

Siena Heights

Don Kleinow Memorial

The Saints hosted the Don Kleinow Memorial where the women won with eight event wins while men took second with three first-place finishes.

Emma Valentine won the high jump and qualified for nationals at 5-8 while Jenna-Ann Johnson won the 100 (12.47) and 200 (26.0). Tyler Fugate (Tecumseh) won the pole vault (11-7.75) while Faith Jackson won the high hurdles (14.55) and Linnearia Richards won the long jump (18-4.25). The 4x100 (48.26) and 4x400 (4:28.77) teams both won as well.

Nethanel Leupold (Madison) won the steeplechase (10:31.33) while Alan Alston won the pole vault (15-1) and the 4x400 team won at 3:33.74.

Kleck scoring attack

Joey Kleck scored six times Wednesday as he led the Saints men's lacrosse team to a 16-10 win at Lourdes.

Devin Plemmons had three goals and four assists while Brandon Hammer had two goals and two assists and Dillon Baldwin scored twice. Eric Csizmadia had a goal with three assists while Ethan Wissink and Lachlan Conway each scored once.

Streak snapped

The Saints baseball team ended a seven-game skid by taking both games against Michigan Dearborn Saturday, 11-6 and 19-13 and then on Sunday, 9-1 and 26-5.

Gino Hutchinson went 4-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs in Game 1 while Brock Olmstead went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs. Thomas Bakoway went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI while Adam Wilding, Cole VanWasshenova and Nick Tiller all hit doubles. Matt Love got the win in relief, giving up one hit in 3.2 innings and striking out five.

Tiller hit a home run in Game 2 while Kenny Layman went 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs. VanWasshenova hit two doubles and had two RBIs while Wilding had three hits with a double and two RBIs, Olmstead had two hits with a double and two RBIs and Aidan Grinstead had two hits with a double and two RBIs. Christian Smolen got the win in relief.

Chase Molnar got a win, giving up a run, on six hits and no walks while striking out six.

Wilding and Jacob Jackson each hit home runs while Layman had two doubles and VanWasshenova, Bakoway, Tiller Brayden Hill all hit doubles as well.

Layman got the win in Game 2 on Sunday while Jackson hit a home run and a double, VanWasshenova hit a home run, Wilding hit three doubles and Hutchinson hit a double.

Back on track

The Saints picked up three-straight wins while taking four of the last five games.

SHU beat Michigan Dearborn, 2-1 and 9-4, on Sunday with Shyann Traux winning Game 1 with a run, on five hits and two walks while striking out four. Julia Hogston had two hits and drove in a run.

Traux tossed four more innings in Game 2, giving up an unearned run, on three hits and no walks while striking out three. Jordan Green got the win as she went three innings and gave up three runs (two earned) on seven hits and a walk while striking out one.

Ellie Thelen went 2-for-4 with a double and four RBIs while Kat Moreau went 2-for-4 while Aver Schellenberger went 2-for-3.
