On Tuesday morning, 247Sports reported that Ohio State withdrew from the Eli Ricks sweepstakes. The former LSU cornerback entered the transfer portal in late November.

Per the report from 247Sports, the Buckeyes have pulled themselves out of the running for Ricks because there was a concern that several members on the current roster would leave if Ricks joined the defensive back room.

As a result, Ohio State will reportedly go into the 2022 season with the defensive backs on its roster and its incoming recruits. This is a tough pill to swallow in large part because Ohio State has been the odds-on favorite to land Ricks.

While it’s possible the Buckeyes’ plans could change, it’s very evident that fans in Columbus are disappointed by this news.

“Worried about current DB’s transferring out,” a Ohio State fan tweeted. “Who are we worried about so much that we stop going after a consensus 5 star that we were rumored to be in the lead for?”

“There’s no way you just pass up on an All-American….gotta be smoke,” another fan tweeted. “Don’t want to hear about ‘feelings.’ If I remember right, Ryan Day wasn’t worried about feelings with Justin Fields and Tate Martell?”

“Wow. I trust the coaches so I’ll let this play out before commenting but wow, that defensive backfield better be LIGHTS OUT next year if you’re passing up on players like this,” one fan wrote.

Ricks is the top-rated cornerback in the transfer portal, according to 247Sports.

If the Buckeyes are going to pass up on a skilled player like Ricks, they must be confident in the defensive backs on their roster.
