College Football World Reacts To What Nick Saban Said Today
Alabama head coach Nick Saban is looking for more structure when it comes to NIL in college football. On Sunday, the seven-time national champion opened up about name, image and likeness. Saying, he thinks it’s good for players. But, there needs to be regulations.
“Name, image and likeness is a positive thing for players,” Saban explained. “They’ve got the opportunity to earn money. I don’t think that’s a bad thing. What is concerning is how is that’s used to get players to decide where they’re going to school.” Adding, “I don’t think that was the intention.”

“We need some kind of national legislation to control that,” Saban continued. “There will be an imbalance as to who dominates college football if it isn’t regulated.”
Saban’s comments drew immediate reaction across social media.
“This [is] Saban giving the rest of the country a warning,” one fan said.

“I agree we need regulation on it and rules to be enforced,” replied Michigan writer Clayton Sayfie. “But him complaining about ‘an imbalance as to who dominates college football’ is ironic.”

“Saban is making comments today that I feel like people are FLAT OUT just taking the wrong way,” said Joshua E. Perry. “This comment is absolutely a warning and not a complaint from Saban.” Concluding, “The man who has dominated college football is just warning you of his next weapon.”

The advent of awarding NCAA athletes their NIL rights has made for both exciting and unpredictable times in college football. While the same five to 10 schools will likely get top prospects anyway, a number of five star recruits have chosen programs such as Deion Sanders’ Jackson State Tigers over a host of Power-5 programs.
It’s also turned the transfer portal into a free agency of sorts. Where players can enter the portal and go out and get as much as they can on the open market.
While Saban’s “imbalance” remarks are rich, the coach does have a point that college sports could use a commissioner of sorts to add some much-needed structure to how things operate.
