Mario Cristobal is reportedly heading back to his alma mater.

On Sunday, Mike Ryan of the Miami-based “Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz” shared that Cristobal will be the next coach of the Miami Hurricanes.

“According to sources,” Ryan tweeted. “Mario Cristobal will be the next Head Coach at Miami.”

Just a day ago, Cristobal confirmed that Oregon approached him with an “aggressive” new contract but he also acknowledged that other programs will likely pursue him.

On Friday, numerous outlets reported that the University of Miami was prepared to make a run at the Oregon head coach. Cristobal, a former Canes offensive lineman and assistant, grew up in the area and won two national championships in Coral Gables.

In four seasons with the Ducks, Cristobal compiled a 35-13 record, which included two Pac-12 championships. With a chance to make it three. Oregon lost to Utah on Saturday in the conference championship game.

Cristobal is a huge get for Miami and word spread fast about his reported homecoming.

“Please be official soon,” one Miami fan pleaded.

“Oh ok I like this a lot,” another added.

“Would be a perfect fit,” said another college football fan.

“Mario Cristobal will be the next head coach at the University of Miami,” AP All-Pro voter Armando Salguero said. “A process I’m told began mid November when conversation about a Manny Diaz buyout began and contingent of UM boosters reached out to Cristobal about coming home to South Florida.”

The next question is where does Oregon go from here? This could possibly open the door for UCLA’s Chip Kelly to return to the program that he built in the early 2010s.
