After doing all of his College GameDay commentary in 2020 from home, college football legend Lee Corso returned to the set for yesterday’s Week 0 opener. And fans were delighted to see it.

College GameDay was live from Atlanta for the big MEAC/SWAC Challenge between Alcorn State and North Carolina Central. And the fans in attendance got to see Corso make his triumphant return to the stage – headgear picks and all.

Corso wound up taking Alcorn State in that game. He honored the late-great Steve McNair by donning his jersey and making the pick next to McNair’s longtime friend and teammate Eddie George.

Fans on social media were absolutely delighted to see Corso make his return. Tributes to the 86-year-old analyst poured in from all over the football landscape:

About the only people who got upset were the fans of North Carolina Central. Some felt slighted by him picking Alcorn State, but they got the last laugh.

Despite Corso’s pick, North Carolina Central won the game 23-14. After the game, head coach Trei Oliver had some words for Corso since he picked against them:

COVID-19 restrictions kept Lee Corso at home last year. He still participated in College GameDay for headgear selections, but it just wasn’t the same without him.

However, now that he’s back, it feels like there’s a return to normalcy that just wasn’t there last year.

We’re looking forward to seeing Corso at all of the College GameDay broadcasts this year.
